Characteristic Functions and Joint Invariant Subspaces

Let T := [T1, . . . , Tn] be an n-tuple of operators on a Hilbert space such that T is a completely non-coisometric row contraction. We establish the existence of a “one-toone” correspondence between the joint invariant subspaces under T1, . . . , Tn, and the regular factorizations of the characteristic function ΘT associated with T . In particular, we prove that there is a non-trivial joint in...

Joint local quasinilpotence and common invariant subspaces

In this article we obtain some positive results about the existence of a common nontrivial invariant subspace for N-tuples of not necessarily commuting operators on Banach spaces with a Schauder basis. The concept of joint quasinilpotence plays a basic role. Our results complement recent work by Kosiek [6] and Ptak [8].

Estimating Non-Gaussian Subspaces by Characteristic Functions

In this article, we consider high-dimensional data which contains a low-dimensional non-Gaussian structure contaminated with Gaussian noise and propose a new method to identify the non-Gaussian subspace. A linear dimension reduction algorithm based on the fourth-order cumulant tensor was proposed in our previous work [4]. Although it works well for sub-Gaussian structures, the performance is no...

Smooth Functions in Star-invariant Subspaces

In this note we summarize some necessary and sufficient conditions for subspaces invariant with respect to the backward shift to contain smooth functions. We also discuss smoothness of moduli of functions in such subspaces.

Invariant Subspaces, Quasi-invariant Subspaces, and Hankel Operators

In this paper, using the theory of Hilbert modules we study invariant subspaces of the Bergman spaces on bounded symmetric domains and quasi-invariant sub-spaces of the Segal–Bargmann spaces. We completely characterize small Hankel operators with finite rank on these spaces.
